At Pharmaceutical Contractors, we strive for top quality in everything we do. This is true when applying coatings to tablets as well. Without this process, tablets would leave a foul taste in your mouth. Two kinds of coatings are applied to tablets at Pharmacon: sugar coating and film coating.

Sugar Coating

Sugar coatings on tablets are no different from the coating found on sweets. It’s a thick, hard layer made of sugar that covers the entire tablet. Applying a sugar coating can also prevent environmental factors such as light and moisture from affecting the stability of the drug.

Film Coating

Sugar coating usually significantly increases the size of tablets (which is not advisable in certain applications), whereas a film coating is offered as an alternative to sugar coating at Pharmacon. Film coating is very thin and protects the tongue against unpleasant tastes while also protecting the tablet core from exposure to light and moisture.
